Daisetsuzan is Japan's largest National Park.  It takes at least 5 full days to cross it. This view from the center of the park south can only begin to show the isolation. Unlike nearly all national parks in Japan there is no one waiting to cook food at the end of your hike.

Every year a few visitors to Daisetsuzan never come home.
