There are blankets and things here, so it is possible to stay without any real gear. However, you should arrive with plenty of time to hike down. Sometime these things are already being used, also i've seen them wet once. I recommend bringing gear if at all possible.
There are several day hike options to keep you entertained for at least 2 days, Tokachi and Furano Dake are both in sight from the hut.
